Circle Lenses in America

Circle Lenses Brown EyesCircle Lenses trend in the United States

Circle Lenses, sometimes called just circle lens or even mispelled as circle lense, are a huge fashion hit in Asia and are becoming more popular in the US and UK and elsewhere in the West.  They are hugely popular, not surprisingly, among young woman who are interested in the latest makeup, fashion and style trends.  There are quite frequent posts and questions about circle lenses on makeup and beauty sites.  While certainly not main stream in America circle contact lenses have generated enough buzz and awareness here in the US that several major media outlets have covered the controversial circle lens topic including ABC News and The New Your Times.  (link to both in the Circle Lenes in the News section).

Buying Circle Lenses online if you live in the Unites States, while not illegal for the buyer, is controversial because here in the states any contact lenses, even plano contacts (non-vision correcting), are considered medical devices and as such require a doctor's prescription.  While of course most if not all major media sources will support the government's laws specific to contact lenses with no prescriptions (clwop) there are less powerful but still popular sources that suggest the requirement for annual prescriptions to continue to wear the same power of contact lenses, which is of course not enforceable for eyeglasses, is more of a subsidy for US eye care providers.   Not all countries follow these same regulations around prescriptions and contact lenses including circle lenses.

We continue to research and provide additional information regarding the demand versus caution surrounding circle lense contacts.  If you are considering ordering circle-lenses online please read both the positive reviews from circle lens wearers and the cautionary advice from those sources that disapprove of the ability to order circle lenses online if you live in the US.  For our part we think you should be very careful about anything related to your eyes and you should take care if you plan to wear circle lenses especially if you are not a current contact lens wearer.  Use the contact us tab for any questions or feeback regarding circle contacts.  If after you've decided you want to try circle lenses you can use this link buy circle contact lenses with no Rx.

Anti Circle Lenses American Propaganda

Yet another example of misinformed anti circle lenses propaganda from America

This is a must read article for anyone with half a brain wondering how all these Asian girls have been wearing circle lenses for years and yet to have gone blind.  It's good to be cautions with your eyes and we strongly recommend you do your research on circle lenses before you buy but if you're also wondering how the KFDA can approve circle lenses if they are so dangerous you should continue reading.  It's not the actual article in this case that's worth the time it's the great comments slamming the American author of the Circle Lenses fad article.Circle Lenses Dangerous or Propaganda

The article is typical of big American media which are typically written by overweight middle age white males that probably has never seen an actual live woman wearing circle lenses and probably has only heard of them in passing.  It appears they then do less than 15 minutes of Internet research, of course incorrectly mention Lady Gaga as the sole source of circle lenses popularity in the US and they get half the facts wrong and write a very dispassionate piece about a topic that is a very important to those in the know.

Here's a snippet of Mr. MD's weak attempt at warning parents against the dangers of circle lenses...

circle lenses are available on the internet without a prescription, even though they are illegal in the United States.  Where do they come from? Most are ordered from online stores based in Canada and Asia, where circle lenses have been popular for some time, but are made with little or no regulation.

Ok, so we'll concede the first fragment is accurate.  It is very easy to buy circle lenses and even normal color contacts without a prescription and yes it's illegal to sell them if the seller is based in the US but it IS legal to buy circle lenses online if you live in the United States.  We recommend caution when buying any contact lenses online and suggest a visit to your doctor for a valid prescription and fitting but if you already know your prescription and it's expired or if you just want to try plano circle lenses you aren't risking your health provided you be responsible and use common sense.

Now as far as the second sentence goes we, like those commenting on the original article have issue with these statements.  We've spent hours and hours researching circle lenses facts and while their may be online stores based in Canada it's certainly not a major source of circle lenses

Lady Gaga Circle Lenses Video

Michelle Phan's Lady Gaga Circle Lenses Video

How to get the Lady Gaga Big Eyed Look....  this video from Michelle Phan (l) is credited with giving the Circle Lens fashion trend in America a big boost.  In this video Michelle shows us step by step exactly how she recreates the Lady Gaga doll-like eyes from her bad romance video.  --

Why are Circle Lenses not FDA Approved?
Wednesday, 29 June 2011 02:18

If you are new to Circle Lenses aka Circle Lens Contacts aka big eyes contact lenses they are soft contacts that are larger in diameter than 'normal' clear or colored contact lenses and hence give the appearance of larger and usually brighter eyes. They were created in South Korea several years ago and have become a fashion staple in Asia. In fact the Korean Herald estimated that Circle Lenses represented 30% of the entire contact lenses market in South Korea. Many celebrities in China and Japan have sported the doll-eye circle lens look and have had a huge impact on spreading this new cosmetic lenses fashion trend.

In the USA most large media outlets ran stories on the circle lenses phenomenon after Lady Gaga debuted circle lenses (or perhaps just computerized special effects) in her Bad Romance video and gave her credit for making them popular in America. Others credit Michelle Phan and her viral YouTube video showing young girls how to get the Lady Gaga big eye look by wearing a wig, applying eye makeup and topping it off with a fresh pair of color circle lenses contacts.

Although this author agrees that Stefani (that's Lady Gaga's real name) and Michelle have had a big influence in spreading the circle lens style he also feels that it's just a matter of time before these cosmetic lenses become common place in most modern parts of the world. They are hugely popular among teen girls and those young single adult females who are into the night club scene.  This trend of dressing up the eyes isn't uncommon as Halloween contact lenses are already popular among vampire fanatics and for average people around Halloween of course for completing the ultimate costume.
